Blue Hues is a visual tribute to the profound beauty and symbolism found within the Sultan Ahmed Mosque of Istanbul. Created from the merging of photographs and sound data collected during my time in Turkey, the work reflects the mosque’s enduring presence in Sultanahmet Square, where for more than four centuries its six elegant minarets have risen toward the sky, carrying the call to prayer across the city.
The artwork’s palette draws directly from the mosque’s iconic interior—an intricate harmony of blues, greens, and turquoise tones that embody spiritual contemplation and the serenity of the heavens. These colours, each deeply rooted in Islamic cultural and religious symbolism, are woven together to echo the Blue Mosque’s luminous tiles and sacred atmosphere.
Framed in gold, the piece merges the spiritual weight of green, the reflective depth of blue, and the nobility of gold, capturing the emotional and architectural essence of one of Istanbul’s most cherished landmarks.
